Exactly what is Tense in Grammar?
Tense within this sense is literally the method of adding a timeframe to some sentence. When a thing is presently taking place, we use the present tense. In cases where a thing will take place in the future then we utilize future tense, and if some thing has already occurred we will work with past tense. There are more variants associated with past tense for example imperfect tense and pluperfect tense but they are outside the scope of this document.
The following sentences give a good illustration of each tense.
I am laughing – present
I laughed – past
I will laugh – future
Each of these sentences employ a unique timeframe and so need to be used correctly. We can not say “I sang tomorrow”, considering that sang is the past tense of sing and tomorrow is in the future. We need to say “I will sing tomorrow” or the sentence sounds completely wrong.
Unfortunately English has a large amount of verbs that are irregular, and therefore they do not follow a obvious conclusion if they take on a past and also future tense.
